Are you interested in the traditional and modern Japanese cultural arts? This module can be added to your Japanese core course and offers you the opportunity to learn about the wonderful culture that Japan has nurtured for thousands of years, while learning the language, and the chance to participate in cultural arts with other Japanese people.
You will have 6 hours of cultural "experience" classes every Saturday. Culture classes are held on a monthly schedule, so activities repeat each calendar month
All classes are based on gaining an understanding of and appreciation for Japanese culture, learning a specific point of Japanese, and participating in the beauty of Japanese both traditional and modern arts.
We guarantee that you'll have a great experience!
Here are just some of the activities that are available on this course. Bear in mind that these are just examples, and that the actual activities on your course may be different.
Fukuoka
Learn Kyushu's reach history while trekking all over the island. Walk at your own pace, be in contact with nature, get a break from the city stress!
Kyoto
This isn't your usual drumming. Taiko is actually a mixture of martial arts and music and it is practised at a dojo and with the same energy and dedication as any other martial arts of Japan! Pick up the drumsticks, assume the drumming Kamae (stance) and join the heartbeat of Japan!
Tokyo
Japanese paper or Washi is world famous and there is a very good reason for that! The same creation method has been used for generations. Technology has made some of the process a little faster, but the basics are still the same as they've always been.
Tokyo
When you think of Japan, what do you think about? The samurai maybe, Geisha or Manga and Anime? What is your favourite anime?
Kyoto
Learn and experience the traditional Japanese tea ceremony and feel it's harmony and peaceful movements.
Fukuoka
Japan is very much a food-centric society. If you have seen any Japanese TV programmes at some point, you will have found countless cooking variety shows!
