From this month, however, we’ve started offering insurance directly to students! We’ve partnered with Guard.me, an award-winning insurance provider that focuses in particular on the education travel market, to offer their great health insurance to our Japanese students at a big discount.
Travel health insurance covers expenses for the bad things that might happen to you while you’re abroad – accident, injury, sickness, etc. It’s very important to have good coverage, as you never know when accidents will happen, and medical expenses can easily eat up your entire travel budget. In the many years we’ve been running Genki Japanese Language School, we’ve seen multiple students brought down by sickness and injury, so don’t think it can’t happen to you!
Details of what’s covered by Guard.me’s policy are on our site here. Guard.me sells this policy for $3.50 per day. We’ve negotiated a discount for our Japanese language school students, so the policy is just 250 yen per day (roughly $2.70 at today’s exchange rate), or 1,750 yen per week. We feel this is a great price for peace of mind.
Of course, you’re still free to purchase your own insurance before you come – we don’t mind whose you use, as long as you have insurance. Don’t learn Japanese in Japan without it!
