What is GenkiJACS?

Genki Japanese and Culture School offers intensive communicative Japanese language courses for foreigners. Classes are very small, with a maximum of 8 students per class, and focused on the needs of Western students. We have schools in Fukuoka City in southern Japan, and in Tokyo.

One lucky winner can study at GenkiJACS for any length of time up to one year (40 weeks), on our Standard Japanese course (20 lessons per week), completely free!

If a student visa is required, the student must study at our Fukuoka Japanese school, starting on either April 3 or October 2, 2017.

Film yourself explaining a Japanese word or concept in as close to one minute as possible.
Theme: ‘Why I want to study at GenkiJACS’
Write a blog entry of at least 100 words describing why you want to study at GenkiJACS.

To enter, simply post a roughly 1-minute-long public video in English or Japanese on the theme above. Post the video to Youtube with an appropriate title. In the video description, mention GenkiJACS and link to genkijacs.com. Then fill out the form at the bottom of this page to complete your entry! Don't worry about making your video look professional - the winner will be chosen at random from eligible entries, so all you need is a webcam or a smartphone!
Enter before October 31, 11:59pm Japan time!
To enter, simply post at least 100 words to a publicly accessible blog or website on the theme above. Include a link to genkijacs.com. Then fill out the form at the bottom of this page to complete your entry!

How is the winner chosen?

On November 1st 2016, one of the entries registered before that date using the form below and approved by our judges as suitable will be chosen at random for each competition. If that’s your entry, we’ll contact you straight away, so keep an eye on your inbox! We’ll also post the result on this page.

The selection process is completely random, so don’t worry if your entry isn’t a masterpiece, you still have a chance!

Competition rules

  1. By entering this competition, entrants agree to be bound by these rules.
  2. The competition is organized by Genki Global, operators of Genki Japanese and Culture School (GenkiJACS).
  3. All standard course rules and restrictions, including student visa/other visa restrictions, apply to study won in either/both of these competitions.
  4. The contest is not affiliated with Youtube, Google, or any other company in any way.
  5. No purchase is necessary to enter.
  6. All contest entries remain the property of the creator/submitter. However, if we like your entry, we may ask for your permission to use all or part of it in our marketing.
  7. Videos and postings must be published between October 3, 2016, 10:00am Japan time and October 31, 2016, 11:59pm Japan time to be considered for eligibility.
  8. Information provided by entrants for this competition will not be shared with any third parties. Information may be used for future direct marketing.
  9. This competition is open to anyone who meets the entry requirements listed above.
  10. Only one entry per person per competition is allowed. If it is discovered that an entrant entered multiple times all entries will be disqualified.
  11. If any of the information provided by the winner is found to be untrue, the prize will be considered to be forfeited. In this case, GenkiJACS is not required to furnish an alternate prize.
  12. GenkiJACS reserves the right to disqualify any entry if the content is found to be offensive, inappropriate or unsuitable, or for any other reason, at the sole discretion of GenkiJACS.
  13. By entering, you certify that the content provided is original to you, that you have all necessary rights, and that no parts are copyrighted by third parties.
  14. Entries must be received by 11:59pm October 31 Japan time to be eligible for the competition.
  15. The prize is non-transferable, i.e. only the actual winner may claim the prize.
  16. The winner agrees to allow GenkiJACS to use his/her name, likeness, nationality, age and other basic details in marketing.
  17. The prize has no monetary value, and can not be exchanged for cash or other products.
  18. The prize will be awarded and accepted in Japan at our Fukuoka or Tokyo school locations. The prize is not considered to be awarded until the winner accepts it.
  19. Accommodation, airfare and any other non-tuition expenses are not included in the prizes. If requested, GenkiJACS will arrange accommodation at the winner’s expense. The winner must arrange his/her own travel to Japan. All insurance, airport transfers, spending money and other expenses (including meals, personal expenses, course upgrades, etc.) are the sole responsibility of the prize winner.
  20. Prize winners will be chosen by GenkiJACS on November 1 from all qualifying entries. In all matters, the decision of the judges shall be final and no correspondence or discussion shall be entered into. The prize winner will be notified by email shortly thereafter, and listed on the competition page (this page). Failure to claim the prize within 14 days may result in disqualification, and/or selection of an alternate winner.
  21. We reserve the right to cancel or amend the competition or these rules at any time without prior notice. Any changes will be posted here.
  22. In the event of any dispute regarding the rules, conduct, results and all other matters relating to the competition, the decision of GenkiJACS shall be final and no correspondence or discussion shall be entered into.
