Online lessons with Genki Japanese and culture school

We will be unable to respond to online lesson inquiries from December 27th, 2024 to January 5th, 2025. During this period, correspondence will not be forwarded. However, we will make every effort to address all your inquiries from January 6th, 2025 onwards.

Tiral lessons will not be available from December 28th, 2024 to Januray 8th, 2025.

For students currently enrolled, lessons will continue as scheduled during this time, subject to availability.

FAQs

Yes, you can be a complete beginner and still enroll in our online lessons!
Unfortunately, because we love our 8-hour-of-sleep nights here, we only offer classes between 9:00 and 19:00 Japan Standard Time
Yes! You would even get a 10% discount each. But there are conditions:
  • Maximum 2 people
  • If 1 of the student does not show up, the discount is cancelled for the remaining student
A minimum of 4 lessons at a time must be booked. There is no upper limit.
For the moment, unfortunately we only use Zoom, as it is the simplest solution we have.
While we of course recommend learning the hiragana/katakana alphabets if you are serious about learning Japanese, your teacher can adapt the contents of your lessons to your level, so you can take lessons with us even if you can't read hiragana/katakana yet.

Lesson procedure

  1. After we receive your application form, our online lesson coordinator will contact you to arrange the first lesson. If necessary, you will be asked to take a short test before your lesson. We will send you a link to access your online lesson.
  2. We recommend that you install the Zoom client, though it is possible to only use your browser to follow the lesson.
  3. Before the class starts, you can enter the Zoom conference room. When the class starts, the teacher will join and the room will automatically become active

  • Best: Your home cabled/Wi-Fi high-speed connection
  • Good: Mobile internet connection
  • Avoid: Wi-Fi in a public space (Starbucks, restaurant, etc)

  • Good: Built-in speakers and microphone
  • OK: Speakers with a separate microphone

Study Topics

Lessons can cover the same topics as private or small group lessons at GenkiJACS itself. However, you can also choose with your teacher to incorporate web resources into your study, such as reading online news together, or taking quizzes on other sites as homework, then discussing your mistakes with the teacher. We are here to help, so just let us know what your goals are and we will work with you to achieve them!

Cancellations

  • To cancel a lessons, send us an email at least 24 hours before the start of your lesson.
    • If your lesson is on Monday of the following week, we must receive the notice of cancellation by 17:00 on Friday regardless of the time of your lesson.
  • If your email is sent less than 24 hours before the lesson start, or in the case of a Monday lesson, after 17:00 on Friday of the week before, you will be charged for the lesson.
  • If you are late for any reason for more than 15 minutes, we will cancel the lesson and treat it as the same day cancellation. The teacher will leave the classroom.
*We use Japanese Standard Time as a point of reference, so all notifications will be based on that. Please consider the time difference between your country and Japan.

Problems

If problems prevent the lesson from being carried out as scheduled, it will be handled as follows:

  • If for any reason the class is not starting on time, even though the student tried to join the class, the school must be contacted immediately. Send us screenshots of your screen so that the issue can be understood more clearly and dealt with in a timely manner.
  • If the problem is the school`s internet access or equipment, the lesson may be extended to accommodate the lost time, or we will arrange for the missed time to be made up at a later date, depending the situation.
  • If the problem is with the student's internet access or equipment, or any other reason outside of the school's control, no time will be re-arranged.
